Ramblings of a Fashionaholic!
If there’s one thing everyone knows about me, it’s that I am crazy about fashion. I love following the latest trends in clothes, shoes, bags, and street styles. This not only lets me stay in touch with what’s hot and what’s not in the fashion world, it also helps me when buying new stuff for my seasonal wardrobe. Imagine being able to boast, ‘Jessica Alba has the same Tory Burch bag as mine’, or ‘I just bought the same Zara top as Olivia Palermo!’ Yes, the feeling is pretty ego-boosting!
Unfortunately, most of the people I know were so caught up with their everyday lives that fashion trends often took a backseat to jobs, kids and bills. Whenever I talked to my sister—and this is someone who had loved drooling over fashion magazines as a kid—she only complained that her little one hated eating his veggies, or how she was giving her husband the silent treatment for missing her birthday. It was the same story with my friends, who would chat about the horrors of juggling careers and raising kids in the 21st century until my ears started ringing.
It wasn’t that I didn’t have a career or a husband. I had the same priorities as my friends and family. The only difference was that I took time out of my hectic schedule for something I felt so passionate about. My husband encouraged me in this, largely because he too needed space to play his beloved video games in peace.
Since I had nobody I could really bond with over fashion in real life, I turned to the World Wide Web. Here’s why I recommend all you fashion lovers to do the same:
- There’s so much stuff, it’s not even funny!
I was amazed to discover millions of blogs, websites, and social media pages dedicated to fashion and lifestyle. I found Facebook and Instagram pages completely devoted to discussing the minutiae of celebrity style. I joined online forums and chat rooms engaged in heated debates about whether the latest Prada bag was a ‘yay’ or a ‘nay’, and whether Selena Gomez’s latest look was ‘Red Carpet worthy’ or ‘just plain trashy’. It was absolutely thrilling!
- Know what’s happening, when it’s happening
Best of all, I was able to stay updated with the biggest happenings in the fashion world. For example, I knew the dates of the world Fashion Weeks and was able to follow the biggest trends to emerge from the catwalks. I took an active part in forums discussing which styles were in vogue and which ones were headed for failure. I was even able to discover which retro trends were making a comeback. My efforts weren’t in vain, as my wardrobe was the smartest in my entire social circle. The verdant envy shining in my friends’ eyes as they fawned over my chic bags, killer shoes and eyecandy tops was better than any cash prize!
In my time networking with other fashion fanatics, I’ve come across many amazing forums and groups. However, one of my favourite online communities is Gather Online - WeGather, where I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of the most passionate fashionistas ever! Gather Online is a platform where people with shared interests can connect and interact with each other, making lifelong friendships along the way. I wholeheartedly recommend you all to give it a try!
